Andy's cocktail tip

To make your own cocktail recipes follow this fundamental rule and you can't go wrong.

Weak
Strong
Sour
Sweet
(descending in volume ratio 8:4:2:1)

Weak is the Fruit Juice
Strong is your alcohol
Sour is your Lemon/Lime/Citric juice
Sweet is your sugar

So using any combination of ingredients you want start with:

  • 100mls Fruit juice (Weak)
  • 50mls Alcohol (Strong)
  • 25mls Sour eg. juice of a whole lime/lemon
  • 12.5mls sugar (Sweet ) eg 2 spoons

One classic cocktail that anyone can make at home which follows these guidelines is the Tom Collins, whose ingredients are:

  • 50ml Gin (Plymouth is my personal preference)
  • 25ml Lemon juice (or the juice of one lemon)
  • 12.5ml Sugar syrup or 2 spoons of sugar
  • Stir or shake well then top with 100ml of soda water
  • Garnish with a lemon slice and a cherry

Drink, enjoy, then make yourself 2 or 3 more!!
